This has a been a surprisingly unusual day.

Things started with 2 half-day training sessions for staff at the New York State Library. About 50 people came out to hear me bombard them (and I do mean bombard!) with web2.0/library2.0 ’stuff’. They then got some projects going and had lots of good discussions. Best of all, they’re getting support from folks ‘at the top’. Jeff Cannell, Deputy Commissioner for Cultural Education, (more…)

Check out this fun ‘buggy music’ widget for the NYS Summer Reading website. It’s a sample of some fun music from Sonific. Really easy to create and free. The code for the sample widget is on the same page.

Want to see what other educators are doing with wikis, blogs, social networking, video, virtual worlds and more? Check out the finalists for the annual Edublogs Awards or “Eddies”. Tons of great ideas there. And while you’re there, VOTE!

Book Blizzard - What at terrific project at Stillwater Free Library (NY) - a reading challenge to the whole town and a fund raiser to boot. The funds will go towards making their wonderful old building handicapped accessible.

The Book Blizzard blog has lots of fun stuff going on: Santa reading “The Night Before Christmas”, holiday music, video of holiday lights, patrons comments on what they’re reading and more. Nice job!

How to find time to learn more? That’s the biggest question isn’t it?

Don’t worry, don’t stress! (more…)

Saw this on LISNews today. Techsmith is offering a free download of an older version of Camtasia Studio (version 3). Their free downloads usually expire after a 30 day trial, but now they’re offering a free registration key to install it for good. If you do want to upgrade to the latest version, you’ll be eligible for a half price upgrade ($149). Details from DownloadSquad.

A couple of years ago, I took a course on Camtasia (through IWA/HWG). The class was terrific and so was the software. I think we were using this older version. I’ve already installed this free version and look forward to comparing it with Wink, another screencasting option (free and open-source). And for $149, I might just upgrade to the newest version of Camtasia.

In any case, this free version is a good deal.
